Did you know?
How Does Fruit Grow on a Tree?
The Explanation: Fruit starts as a flower on a tree. When a bee or other pollinator carries pollen from one flower to another, the flower gets fertilized and begins to change. The petals fall off and the base of the flower slowly swells up and grows into a fruit. Inside the fruit, seeds form so that the tree can eventually make new plants.
Try This: Next time you eat an apple, look at the bottom of it and find the dried flower parts still attached. Then count how many seeds are inside!
Fun Fact: Strawberries are not true berries, but bananas are! Scientists use a very specific definition of the word berry.
