Did you know?

The Tail Has Two Superpowers

The Amazing Truth: A horse's tail is like a built-in fly swatter and weather shield all in one! Horses swish their tails back and forth constantly to chase away biting flies and other pesky insects. In cold, windy weather, a horse turns its back to the wind and clamps its tail tightly against its body, like closing a door to keep out a draft. The tail is actually an extension of the horse's backbone, with real bones running through its base.

Horse Whisper: Never stand directly behind a horse — a powerful tail swish can sting, and a startled horse might kick out with its back legs!

Color Challenge: On a breezy day, stand outside facing the wind, then turn around so your back faces it. Which way keeps your face warmer? Horses turn their tails to the wind, too!
